About the project

We are a group of European volunteers who are currently active in communities throughout Armenia.  We work with and for the Stepanavan Youth Center and the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Stepanavan and Vardenis respectively.   Our aim is to increase young people's awareness of their own potential to change for the better their lives and their community through working together.

In association with the aforementioned organisations, we will be gathering groups of teenagers to teach photography and storytelling, as well as project planning and teamwork, in order to develop a Photo Roman, a creative work that will tell a story through photographs.  Our current budget is for twenty participants and six trainers with a plan to expand the scope of the project in future years.

Through this project students will learn hands-on photography basics and strategies for storytelling through images.  The facilitated workshops will increase their creative skills and ability to work together for a common goal.  Students will participate in the conceptualisation and realisation of projects.  After the Photo Roman is completed, students and volunteers will facilitate community events to showcase their work in order to encourage youth awareness and interest in creative projects and development.

The goal of this project is to involve children in the whole creative process, as well as in the follow-up activities.  As a result, children will be empowered to create projects that effect their communities and all people involved will become aware of the importance and the impact of an educative community project as a tool of cohesion as well as an encouragement to initiate new projects.
